The other day, while meeting some clients at a conference, one of the ladies sitting beside me leaned over and said, “Your skin looks amazing. What’s your secret?” I instantly blushed and thanked her for her kind words.
Here’s the truth: as a mother of two young kids, I don’t have time (or energy!) for long skincare routines. My mornings are usually about getting everyone out the door with breakfast in their bellies and matching socks on their feet. My skincare routine is simple: a gentle face wash and a good moisturizer. That’s it.
But what I do focus on is what I eat. Over time, I’ve learned that healthy, nutrient-rich food can do wonders for the skin: keeping it fresh, glowing, and full of life. So today, I want to share a few ingredients that have helped my skin look and feel its best, all from the inside out.
1. Salmon
Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, salmon helps maintain the skin’s natural oil barrier, keeping it soft, hydrated, and smooth. Omega-3s also help reduce inflammation, which can minimize redness and irritation.

2. Avocado
Avocados are full of healthy fats and vitamin E, both of which support skin elasticity and protect against damage from the sun and pollution. They’re also a great source of vitamin C, which helps the body produce collagen, the secret to youthful, plump skin.

3. Blueberries
Tiny but mighty, blueberries are packed with antioxidants that fight free radicals, the unstable molecules that contribute to aging. They help your skin repair and regenerate itself, making it look brighter and more even-toned.

4. Sweet Potatoes
Beta-carotene gives sweet potatoes their rich orange color, and your skin a healthy glow! Once eaten, beta-carotene turns into vitamin A, which helps protect your skin from dryness and dullness.
Take a look at my sweet potato recipes for some tasty inspiration.
5. Spinach and Leafy Greens
Leafy greens like spinach and kale are full of vitamins A, C, and K, along with iron and folate, all of which play a role in keeping your skin clear and nourished. Vitamin K helps reduce dark circles and puffiness, while vitamin A encourages skin renewal.

6. Nuts and Seeds
Almonds, walnuts, chia seeds, and sunflower seeds are loaded with vitamin E and healthy fats. They are natural moisturizers that keep your skin supple and hydrated from within.

7. Water
This might sound simple, but drinking enough water every day is one of the most important things you can do for your skin. Hydration keeps your skin plump, smooth, and helps flush out toxins that can cause dullness or breakouts.

Final Thoughts
Good skincare isn’t just about what we put on our faces, it’s also about what we put into our bodies. When we eat foods that nourish us from within, the results show up on our skin, energy, and confidence.
So next time you think about glowing skin, start in the kitchen. Your skin will thank you for it
